Llego casi de noche a Villaviciosa. Los faros del coche iluminan fachadas de edificios antaño nobiliarios. A cada cruce, a cada vuelta de volante, me doy cuenta entre la penumbra que mi nuevo despertar en el Camino de Santiago promete ser interesante.
Arriving to Villaviciosa almost at midnight. The headlights of my passing car light the fronts of ancient buildings. Each cross, each turn of the steering wheel, I realise that my next awakening on the Camino promises to be very interesting.
Abro los ojos en el pequeño Hotel Avenida Real. Cuco, aseado e incluso recién entrado el otoño visitado por peregrinos. El tintenear cercano de los vasos de desayuno me reclama. No hay peregrino que se resista a estas horas a darse un primer homenaje. Y no es para menos, zumo, café, tostadas y las magdalenas elaboradas por manos artesanas. Mientras doy buena cuenta del refrigerio, aún tengo reciente el recuerdo de la espléndida cena de bienvenida en la sidrería El Garitu. Donde fueres haz lo que vieres, y esto mismo aplicado a la gastronomía asturiana es sumamente gratificante.
Bien pertrechados en esta primera hora de la mañana nos disponemos a visitar el magnífico casco antiguo de Villaviciosa. Me sorprende gratamente. Nunca antes había visitado a conciencia la parte más histórica de la villa, y los tiempos que marcan los pasos del Camino, son perfectos para disfrutar sin prisas de sus calles, empedrados, edificios, en definitiva la historia viva del Camino del Norte a Compostela.
Saliendo de Villaviciosa, nuestro punto de partida de #ElCaminoGijón, nos espera un buen paseo hasta Gijón junto a Marta de Mésame Mucho, allí nos reuniremos con el resto de peregrinas, Noemí, de Turismo de Gijón, María de Escarabajos, bichos y mariposas, Carla de La Tortuguita Blanca y Chejo de La Bici Azul que llenarán de magia nuestra aventura por tierras asturianas.
Me queda dar las gracias a Turismo de Gijón y al Ayuntamiento de Villaviciosa por su acogida, sobre todo a Miguel que durante una noche y una mañana nos trasladó a lo mejor de su comarca haciendo camino y patria.

Opening my eyes in the small Avenida Real Hotel. Cute, tidy and even visited by pilgrims in the recently entered Autumn. Clinking glasses at breakfast. It a must to have a delicious breakfast for pilgrims in the early morning. Thats no surprise, given the quality of juice, coffee, toasts and the handmade fairy cakes. While enjoying meal, I still have the recent memory of the splendid dinner which took placed at El Garitu. It is very satisfying to try Asturian gastronomy on the spot.
Well equipped in the early morning we prepared to visit the astonishing old quarter of Villaviciosa. I was pleasantly surprised. Ive never been here before with time enough, but the Camino is the perfect way to enjoy its streets, paving, buildings, in short the living history of the Way of Saint James.
Leaving Villaviciosa, our startingpoint of #ElCaminoGijón, there is still a long way untill the city of Gijón in the company of Marta in a first step, and later Noemí, María, Carla y Chejo who will spread magic on the Camino in the Asturian landscapes.
Just remains to me to thank «Turismo de Gijón» and Villaviciosa Council for its welcome, especially to Miguel who during an evening and a whole morning moved us to the best of his homeland doing Camino.
