Firstly let me tell you that I was little disappointed when I find out the new series was going to be focused solely on Maximoff Hale and his beau, because I wanted also the rest of the Addicted kids POVs, however, once I started to read the book, everything turned out to be perfect. I couldnt ask more from my favorite twin authors, they know how to engage the reader and make us feel each and every emotions the characters are feeling. I also feel kind of lucky to be able to enjoy all the hypes of this series since I wasnt part of the Addicted series beginning, so for me its really a great thing.
Now, Damaged Like Us, like I say above, is about Maximoff (Moffy) Hale, the eldest son of the famous Lily and Loren Hale, so he is the most responsible of all his cousin, always following the rules and most importantly, accepting his not conventional life surrounded by paparazzi and fans, where privacy is a privilege and the press spreads rumors of him and his family all the time. Due his celebrity status he needs a capable, committed bodyguard 24/7 that can keep up with his chaotic lifestyle. Enter Farrow Keen, white hair, tattooed, pierced twenty-seven-years-old Yale graduated who is not only assigned to Maximoffs detail but also the one who plagues his most sensual fantasies. Farrow is really good in his job, he loves it and he knows that sleeping with the client is a big no-no but the attraction is too strong to be denied and when the feelings start to show up they both have to make some sacrifices to save their love.
Well, Im not a big fan of M/M romance, Ive read like 3 in my bookish lifetime, I was reticent about the whole thing, however, I really like how it was describe in this book and I believe K&B made a really great job in their first M/M romance. But honestly, I wasnt surprise because they have always created the most amazing love stories. I also like the sexual tension between the two characters, even when this is not a slow burn romance, there are few hot scene but also an unfolding, mesmerizing love story between Maximoff and Farrow.
I love their banter, their jokes and their chemistry, so fun to read; this book is so funny, in general. I specially love the lunch scene at Colbat Inc. Speaking of side characters I enjoy the cameos of other family members, young and old ones, the family dynamic is very present through the whole book and its important because showcase how much Moffy cares about his family. At the same time the was something very particular that K&B hadnt done before that it was breaking the fourth wall, especially when Moffy describe his family, at first it did surprise me but while the book progressed I found myself enjoy it and understanding why it was written that way.
Still, this book is not perfect because its end. First, I knew something like that was coming, I felt it since I read a characters interview with Moffy at the pre-release party on Facebook, and something he said ring some bells for me, it was as if K&B were given us clues about it, or well, I felt it that way. But my problem with it is that it was rushed and it didnt give us further explanation of the situation but I guess we may see the consequence in the next book. In addition, I feel shocked and disappointed with the characters form the original series for their behavior toward the situation, I never expected that reaction.
Overall, this was really a great book to read, perfect set for a new series and spin-off of an already amazing story, I couldnt ask for more. I enjoyed the new generation personalities and how they interact between each other, specially Moffy and Jane friendship, and Sulli even when she was in only a handful of scenes, although, I NEED MORE OF CHARLIE, please, thank you. A very important thing of this book is that its the introduction of a new world so mostly of it is about get to know the characters and the dynamic of those around them, this is not a fast—piece read, it is a romance with family and hot scenes, that Im sure youll enjoy even if you dont like m/m romance and a good thing is theres not cliffhanger, while the end is set to allow more books.
NOTE: K&B dont necessarily recommend to read the original series to read this book but I think it would be a great idea because youll have a better understanding of Moffys roots and his personality. Besides theyre amazing writers and their book are on another level.
---------En primer lugar permítanme decirles que me sentí un poco decepcionada cuando descubrí que la nueva serie iba a estar centrada solo en Maximoff Hale y su novio, porque yo quería a todos de la nueva generación, pero una vez que empecé a leer el libro todo resulto ser perfecto. No pude pedir más de mis autores gemelos favoritos, quienes saben cómo involucrar al lector y hacernos sentir cada emoción que los personajes están sintiendo. También me siento con suerte de poder disfrutar de todos el bombo de esta serie ya que no fui parte del comienzo de Addicted, así que para mí es realmente bueno.
Ahora, Damaged Like Us, como digo arriba, se trata de Maximoff (Moffy) Hale, el hijo mayor los famosos Lily y Loren Hale, por ello, él es el más responsable de todo sus primos, siempre siguiendo las reglas y lo más importante, aceptando su vida no convencional rodeado de paparazzi y fans, donde la privacidad es un privilegio y la prensa difunde rumores sobre él y su familia todo el tiempo. Debido a su estatus de celebridad necesita un guardaespaldas capaz y comprometido 24/7 que puede mantenerse al día con su estilo de vida caótico. Entra Farrow Keen, un graduado de Yale de veintisiete años con cabello blanco, piercings y tatuajes que no sólo está asignado a cuidar de Maximoff, sino también es quien plaga sus fantasías más sensuales. Farrow es realmente bueno en su trabajo, le encanta y sabe que dormir con el cliente es un gran no-no, pero la atracción es demasiado fuerte para ser negado y cuando los sentimientos empiezan a mostrarse ambos tienen que hacer algunos sacrificios para salvar su amor.
Bueno, no soy un gran fan de romances h/h, he leído como 3 en mi vida literaria, así que estaba un poco reticente acerca del plot, sin embargo, realmente me gusto cómo se describió en este libro y creo K&B hicieron un gran trabajo en su primer romance masculino. Pero honestamente, no me sorprendió para nada porque siempre han creado las historias de amor más asombrosas. También me gusta la tensión sexual entre los dos personajes, incluso cuando esto no es un romance lento, hay unas cuantas escenas calientes, y también una historia de amor que se desarrolla de forma fascinante entre Maximoff y Farrow.
Me encantan sus bromas, sus constantes argumentos y química, tan divertido de leer; Este libro es cómico, en general. Me gusta especialmente la escena del almuerzo en Colbat Inc. Hablando de personajes secundarios, disfruto de los cameos de otros miembros de la familia, jóvenes y viejos, la dinámica familiar está muy presente en todo el libro y es importante porque muestra cuánto se preocupa Moffy por su familia. Al mismo tiempo hubo algo muy particular que K&B no había hecho antes que fue romper la cuarta pared y hablar con el lector, especialmente cuando Moffy describía a su familia, al principio me sorprendió pero mientras el libro progresaba me encontré disfrutándolo y entendiendo por qué estaba escrito de esa manera.
Sin embargo, este libro no es perfecto por su final. Primero, supe que algo así pasaría, lo sentí desde que leí una entrevista de personajes con Moffy en la fiesta de pre-lanzamiento en Facebook, y algo que dijo me hizo ruido, para mí fue como si K&B nos dieron pistas sobre ello, o bien, lo sentí de esa manera. Pero mi problema con el final es que fue apresurado y no nos dio más explicación de la situación, pero supongo que se verán la consecuencia en el próximo libro. Además, me siento sorprendida y decepcionado con los personajes de la serie original por su comportamiento hacia la situación, nunca esperé esa reacción.
En general, este fue realmente un gran libro para leer, un piso perfecto para una nueva serie y spin-off de una historia ya increíble, no podía pedir más. Disfruté de las personalidades de la nueva generación y de cómo interactúan entre sí, especialmente la amistad de Moffy y Jane, y Sulli incluso cuando ella estuvo en sólo un puñado de escenas, aunque, NECESITO MÁS DE CHARLIE, por favor, gracias. Una cosa muy importante de este libro es que es la introducción de un nuevo mundo por lo que en su mayoría fue acerca de conocer a los personajes y la dinámica de los que les rodean, es un romance con familia y escenas calientes, que estoy seguro de que disfrutará incluso si no te gusta romances entre hombre, y una buena cosa es que no hay cliffhanger, mientras que el final se establece para permitir más libros.
NOTA: K&B no necesariamente recomiendan leer la serie original para leer este libro, pero creo que sería una gran idea porque así se tiene una mejor comprensión de las raíces de Moffy y su personalidad. Además son escritoras increíbles y sus libros están en otro nivel.
