I dont know what it is about the UK versions that almost all have the most breathtakingly beautiful covers. Seriously, we use to say “dont judge a book by its cover” but its so difficult when you see one like this. So, now that I sang my love for the cover, lets get to the book.

The Potion Diaries series is the story of Samantha “Sam” Kemi, an Ordinary citizen of the fictional Nova country whos the apprentice of her alchemist genius granddad. Her life isnt easy since her family struggle with money and the traditional, natural potion store her family run is not doing well because a bigger synth corporation has taken the market of medicine. But her life takes a radical turn when she, along with other alchemists, are called to participate in the legendary Wilde Hunt, a race to create a potion to save a Royal, in this case, Princess Evelyn of Nova. Sam will face a lot of danger, dishonest people, betrayals and few attempts against her life, while she tries to put the Kemy family name on top of the potion world again.

---------------No sé lo que pasa con las versiones del Reino Unido que casi todas tienen las portadas más hermosas. En serio, solemos decir, "no juzgues un libro por su portada", pero es muy difícil cuando ves una como este. Entonces, ya que canté mi amor por estas portadas, vayamos al libro.

La serie de The Potions Diaries es la historia de Samantha "Sam" Kemi, ciudadana ordinaria del país ficticio de Nova que es la aprendiz de su genio abuelo alquimista. Su vida no es fácil, ya que su familia tiene problemas economicos y la tradicional tienda de pociones naturales que su familia posee no le está yendo bien porque una gran corporación de medicamentos sintetizados ha tomado el mercado de la medicina. Pero su vida da un giro radical cuando ella, junto con otros alquimistas, sean llamados a participar en la legendaria Wilde Hunt, una carrera para crear una poción para salvar a un miembro de la familia real, en este caso, la princesa Evelyn de Nova. Although, when I saw these books for the first time I thought it was a middle-grade story (again because of its cover), I find myself reading YA books with a very intricate plot and rich characters. The world within this series is very different from us; there are two kinds of people, the Ordinary (without magic) and the Talented (with magic). The Talented have practically their life sort it out, they are the wealthy ones, they got the best jobs and all the possibilities to be successful while the Ordinary doesnt have magic to help them with anything and the only way they can do something remotely similar is the alchemy, the traditional and natural way to create potions. However, since synth corporations take over the world this traditional way has remained in the past, making the Kemis, once the most respected family of alchemists, become increasingly poor and their beloved store received fewer customers.

I fell in love with Sam since the very beginning. She isnt like any other YA characters Im so tired of reading about these days. Shes strong, focused on what she had to do and she did it all for her family, but shes not perfect either, she made few mistakes like many other young people but she owns them. She was by far my favorite character of this book and I love her relationship with each of her family members.

---------------Aunque, cuando vi estos libros por primera vez, pensé que era una historia para niños (nuevamente por su portada), me encontré leyendo un libro YA con una intrincada trama y ricos personajes. El mundo dentro de esta serie es muy diferente de nosotros; hay dos tipos de personas, la Ordinary (sin magia) y la Talented (con magia). Los Talented prácticamente tienen resuelta su vida, son los que consiguen ser ricos, obtienen los mejores trabajos y todas las posibilidades para tener éxito, mientras que el Ordinario no tiene magia para ayudarles con nada y la única forma en que pueden hacer algo remotamente. similar es con la alquimia, la forma tradicional y natural de crear pociones. Sin embargo, desde que la corporationde sinteticos se hizo cargo del mundo, esta forma tradicional se ha mantenido en el pasado, haciendo que los Kemis, una vez la familia de alquimistas más respetada, se vuelvan cada vez más pobre y su querida tienda reciba cada vez menos clientes.

Me encanto Sam desde el principio. Ella no es como ningún otro personaje YA del que estoy tan cansado de leer estos días. Ella es fuerte, centrada en lo que tenía que hacer y con un gran sentido de la familia, pero tampoco es perfecta, comete unos cuantos errores a lo largo de la serie, como muchos otros jóvenes, pero es conciente de ellos y trata de arreglarlos. Ella era, con mucho, mi personaje favorito de estos libros y me encanta su relación con cada uno de los miembros de su familia.

I especially love how she deals with her Talented young sister, Molly. This 12 years old girl wasnt, by any means, capricious or frivolous, and I think it says a lot about her the fact that she felt she never would be as good as her old sister when she was the one with the Talent. I love the dynamic of the two of them where Sam do everything so her sister has a chance to study and how Molly venerated her older sister for her gift with alchemy and how strong and resolve Sam could be.

Overall, I like how rich of imaginations, heroism and lovely this series is. The romance didnt overtake the plot at all, however, the aspect of love itself is very present in here, like the love for family, for the country of Nova (that I highly suspect its inspired in the UK), for the alchemy, for her own abilities, and for herself. This series is so well presented, and well-thought because this is an alternate universe where theres not just Nova but other countries in a world that split between ordinaries and Talented. I really, really recommend the books because the author knows how to engage the reader from the start and delivered an incredibly good story.

---------------Especialmente me encanta cómo lidia con su talentosa joven hermana, Molly. Esta niña de 12 años no era, de ninguna manera, caprichosa o frívola, y creo que dice mucho sobre ella el hecho de que sentía que nunca sería tan buena como su hermana mayor cuando era ella la del Talento. Me encanta la dinámica de los dos donde Sam hace todo para que su hermana tenga la oportunidad de estudiar y cómo Molly venera a su hermana mayor por su facilidad para con alquimia y lo fuerte y resuelto que puede ser Sam.

En general, me gusta lo rica de la imaginación, el heroísmo y la belleza en esta serie. El romance no superó en absoluto la trama, sin embargo, el aspecto del amor mismo está muy presente aquí, como el amor por la familia, por el país de Nova (que sospecho que está inspirado en el Reino Unido), por la alquimia , por sus propias habilidades y por ella misma. Esta serie está muy bien presentada y bien pensada porque este es un universo alternativo donde no solo existe Nova sino otros países en un mundo que se divide entre ordinarios y Talentosos. Realmente recomiendo estos libros porque la autora sabe cómo involucrar al lector desde el principio y entregar una historia increíblemente buena.
