Sinopsis:

GOODREADS

My Thoughts

As a Latina, born and rise in South America, Im always proud when someone create something from our side of the continent and make a good representation of our cultures. When I found out about this book, I immediately wanted to read it, not only because the cover is oh-so-dreamy, but also because the story seemed to be so interesting. Im so happy that I did because I LOVED every part of this book from the world-building, to the characters, the action and the romance.

I like the world thats just opening its doors with this book so much, the magical elements which are somethings that I never saw before in fiction and the way the layers were put together so perfectly. I suppose thats what makes this book so spectacular, the way this indigenous culture of the Bolivian Andes were used as an inspiration for something new and totally addictive. Im not Bolivian, so I know very little about their history, but I found myself fascinated by the rich details of this magical place, and I actually searched to know if Inkansisa existed but found that it didnt, or at least Google showed no results.

Despite the danger, my protest had burst from my lips, from my heart. Because words empowered by justice can never be silenced.
― Isabel Ibañez, Woven in Moonlight

I like the characters a lot and I felt the treatment they received by the author was (mostly) perfect regarding the plot. Yet, my only concern was that Ximana (the decoded Contesa) was not much a decoded, I mean, after having so many years of impersonating someone else she should be able to get the rope of been that person perfectly, instead there were times when she felt out of character and I honestly felt she could had made a better job at it. But at the same, I also understand the authors point, I think she was trying to establish a way to make those close to Ximena see her for who she was rather that for who she pretended to be and created a deeper link to allow them to trust her. But, this makes me wonder, who was really Ximena? I can honestly say that I dont know, I was not able to discern her personality.

Overall, I feel this to be a strong book with a lot of awesome elements. I love the romance in it and Im so happy of how things turned out on this aspect, whilst I also appreciated that the author doesnt shade away for killing important characters and take the hardest plot decisions she considered to be part of the story. Therell be another book based on Inkansisa, yet it wont be an immediate sequel of this one (even though it set after the event of this book), and I plan to read it.because this book was awesome and I cant wait to know more of this world.
