My Thoughts

I love historical romances, but its been a while since I read one, so Im very happy to have chosen this book. Unusual in this genre, The Widow of Rose House tells the story of the newly widowed, Alva Webster, who returned to New York after her scandalous marriage was front cover of all newspapers, giving her an infamous reputation among the high society of the time. Trying to get her life back on track, she decided to buy and renovate Liefdehuis, an abandoned mansion in Hyde Park, and publish a book about it, but she doesnt have it easy since the house seems to be infested with ghosts. Enter Samuel Moore, a member of a prestigious family of academics, who is intrigued by these stories and wants to study the supposed ghosts, to the horror of Alva who doesnt want complications allowing a handsome man in her life. But these two have a strong chemistry that cant be denied and, with awkward encounters, scientific explosions and witty banter, Sams help may be exactly what Alva needs to solve the mystery of the house and save her future.

Alva had been a socialite all her life, but money couldnt buy her love or happiness, and when she thought she finally found what she had always dreamed of, reality fell on her to wake her up in a real-life nightmare. Meanwhile, Sam grew up in an academic, open-minded, inclusive and united family, devoting his entire life to finding the truth, whatever it was. They couldnt be more different from each other, but it was interesting to see how their upbringing, values and unique views aligned to complete them and make them a delightful couple.

Me encantan los romances históricos, pero ha pasado un tiempo desde que leí uno, así que estoy muy contento de haber elegido este. Inusual en este género, The Widow of Rose House cuenta la historia de la recién viuda, Alva Webster, que regresó a Nueva York después de que su escandaloso matrimonio fuera portada principal de todos los periódicos, dándole una reputación infame entre la alta sociedad de la época. Intentando volver a encarrilar su vida, decide comprar y renovar Liefdehuis, una mansión abandonada de Hyde Park, y publicar un libro al respecto, pero no lo tiene fácil ya que la casa parece estar infestada de fantasmas. I liked the development of the characters, but I also liked the plot, even when it isnt common (at least for me), presenting hints of ghosts and mystery. Alva and Sam must discover the secrets of the mansion to save Alvas project, which, of course, made them more intimate, at the same time, it made us, the readers, wonder about the history of the house. I really didnt expect a spooky story, but it cannot be denied that sometimes it was, however, I would have loved to have more details regarding the renovation plans, but thats only because I am a home decor enthusiast.

Overall, I loved this historical romance; It isnt my usual reading with touches of ghosts, but I enjoyed it very much, especially the development of the characters. I didnt know it was a debut novel, but I will definitely be watching this author to see more of her work because if she can offer more of this awesomeness, Ill be there to read it.

Me gustó el desarrollo de los personajes, pero también me gustó la trama, incluso cuando no es común (al menos para mí), presentando insinuaciones de fantasmas y misterio.
